History of Santa Rosa Pipes and Drums
">Santa Rosa Pipes
and Drums was founded in October 2003. In June 2004 the band was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation with
the State of Florida and in December 2004 the band was designated by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501 (c)(3)
nonprofit organization.
2004
Our first public performance was
at the dedication of the Milton Veteran’s Memorial on a rainy Veteran’s Day.
The band also played at the Milton, Pace, and Gulf Breeze Christmas parades.
2005
February – Participated in
the Navarre Mardi Gras Parade and was awarded first place
in the walking division.
April - The band was the recipient of a grant from the Santa Rosa Arts and Culture
Foundation.
September - The band underwent reorganization, Chris King became the new pipe major,
and we decided to enter the world of competition.
2006
October - The band
entered its first competition at the Stone Mountain Highland Games
in Atlanta, Georgia and was awarded 7th place out of 16 bands.
November - Played at the dedication of the Purple Heart Memorial at the
Veteran’s Memorial in Milton.
- Awarded a second grant from the Santa Rosa Arts and Culture Foundation.
- Played at the Wounded Warrior 5K Run at NAS Pensacola.
December - Played at the Milton Christmas Parade and Chumuckla Redneck parade.
- Performed at the Milton Galley Night.
2007
January - The band
competed at the Central Florida Highland Games in Winter Springs,
Florida, and was awarded second place.
February - Performances included the Milton Mardi Gras Parade and the Senior Expo at
the Milton Community Center.
March –Performed at the Riverwalk Fine Arts Festival in Milton.
